Most Oppose Overturning Roe v. Wade; Widespread Confusion Over a Post-Roe World

With a leak from the U.S. Supreme Court indicating that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that affirmed a constitutional right to abortion, will be overturned in the coming weeks, new data from PRRI shows that the court’s decision will be far removed from what most Americans want. As of March 2022, a broad majority of Americans oppose overturning Roe v. Wade (61%) and just over one-third (36%) support it. Opposition is highest among Democrats (74%), including a majority (56%) who strongly oppose overturning Roe. Most independents (61%) also oppose a Roe overturn.

Even Republicans are divided on overturning the landmark decision–48% oppose overturning Roe v. Wade, and 52% support it. Similarly, white evangelical Protestants, the group most likely to support overturning Roe v. Wade, are divided, with 46% opposed to overturning it and 52% in favor. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: Majority wants Title 42 coronavirus border restrictions to remain

Nearly five times as many voters think border security has gotten worse over the last two years as say it has improved, according to the latest Fox News survey. In addition, a majority favors keeping Title 42 restrictions — the pandemic-era policy allowing the U.S. to remove migrants on public health grounds.

In general, voters also think immigrants help rather than hurt the country. Forty-five percent say immigrants make the U.S. a better place to live, down from a high of 51% in 2018. On the other side, 39% feel immigrants hurt the country. CONTINUED

Inflation, recession and the 2022 midterms

With six months to go until the 2022 midterm elections, the economic indicators continue to deteriorate for Democrats. While unemployment remains low and the economy continues to grow (except for a recent hiccup that few take seriously), inflation is up dramatically, and interest rates are spiking. …

The president doesn’t have a lot of options when it comes to trying to slow inflation. It’s the Federal Reserve, after all, that is tasked to assure price stability, and the Fed may well have already miscalculated. …

Of course, it really doesn’t matter who missed the boat on inflation. The one thing certain is that an incumbent president will get the blame. Indeed, Biden already has. CONTINUED
