Russia-Ukraine war fails to fuel Biden rebound

As President Joe Biden meets with key allies in Brussels to coordinate a stronger response to Russia’s monthlong assault on Ukraine, a new poll shows Americans have yet to rally around his leadership. …

Only 43% of Americans approve of Biden and a similar percentage approve of his handling of the relationship with Russia. Both measures are little different from an AP-NORC poll conducted days before the Feb. 24 invasion. CONTINUED

U.S. Image Improves Across Most of NATO

… Gallup surveys conducted before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 showed the image of U.S. leadership was stronger across much of NATO than it had been in years, after languishing at low levels during the Trump administration. Between 2020 and 2021, U.S. leadership saw double-digit gains in 20 of the 27 NATO members surveyed both years.

Ratings of U.S. leadership in many countries in 2021 — including key NATO partners such as Germany and the Netherlands — matched or surpassed levels seen during the Obama administration. CONTINUED

Are Latinos Deserting the Democratic Party? Evidence from the Exit Polls

Key Points
• One key question in American politics is the trajectory of Latino voters. Donald Trump performed better in 2020 with Latino voters than he did in 2016, particularly in places like South Texas and South Florida.
• However, an analysis of the longer-term trend in Latino presidential voting shows that this growing voting bloc is not necessarily trending one way or the other.

California: Sanctions on Russia Have Bipartisan Support

Following the invasion of Ukraine, most Californians—and majorities across party lines—favor imposing economic sanctions on Russia even if it means higher energy prices. On the pandemic front, Democrats are far more likely than independents and Republicans to say controlling COVID-19 is more important than having no restrictions on normal activities. And when it comes to economic conditions, around one-third of Californians—and nearly one-half of lower-income residents—say higher consumer prices are causing their household serious financial hardship. These are among the key findings of a statewide survey released today by the Public Policy Institute of California. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: Higher interest gives GOP edge in 2022 midterms

Eight months ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Republican voters are slightly more likely than Democrats to say they are interested in the contest and that the outcome is important to them. This could be a major advantage this fall, as the Republicans seek to build on a narrow 2-point edge in the generic congressional ballot. …

On Wednesday, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court, completed her third day of confirmation hearings. The survey, conducted March 18-21 (including the first day of hearings), asked voters whether or not they would confirm Jackson. A 56% majority would vote to confirm her, the highest of any nominee since the question was first asked on a Fox News poll in 2005. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: Voters want the US to do more to help Ukraine against Russia

American voters are closely following news about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and want to help. By a 63-32% margin, voters think the U.S. should be doing more for Ukrainians in their fight against Russia. …

Support for additional action doesn’t mean voters aren’t concerned about the potential costs. Three-quarters worry that supporting Ukraine could result in war between the U.S. and Russia (75%) and that a U.S.-Russia conflict could lead to a nuclear war (73%). CONTINUED
