Government Remains Americans’ Top Problem in 2022

For the seventh year in the past decade, Americans name dissatisfaction with the government as the nation’s top problem in 2022. Where public opinion diverges on LGBTQ rights

… Support for same-sex marriage, as well as laws protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination in housing, employment, and other basic needs, has continually increased, even over the last few years. Support for nondiscrimination protections is even higher than support for same-sex marriage, at nearly 80 percent. …

When it comes to issues involving transgender people specifically, though, public opinion is moving in a different direction. …

Why might these two trends be occurring simultaneously? The culture war front has moved on from same-sex marriage to find issues that have more traction. And there is more traction on transgender issues because often people don’t understand it, or even know anyone who is transgender. CONTINUED

CNN Poll: Americans are split over confidence in incoming House GOP majority or Biden

Americans divide almost evenly over whether they have more confidence in the newly empowered Republicans in the US House of Representatives (51%) or in President Joe Biden (49%) to deal with the major issues facing the country today, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

But asked about the impact of Republican control of the House on several major issues, the public anticipates positive changes in few areas. …

Half of Americans currently say the GOP’s views and policies are too extreme, rather than generally mainstream, while 44% call the Democratic Party too extreme – both numbers are little changed since last summer.
