Fox News Poll: Voters want schools to teach more about good citizenship and less about gender identity

With some school districts having already returned to the classroom, the latest Fox News survey looks at voters’ views on what’s being taught in public schools.

The poll, released Thursday, finds voters of all political stripes agree on one thing: when it comes to public schools, there is too little discussion on the responsibilities of being a good citizen. Seventy percent feel that way, including majorities of Democrats (65%), Republicans (75%), and independents (71%). In addition, over half feel there aren’t enough lessons on reading and writing (54%) and math and science (50%), while a sizable minority feels that way about racism (44%). …

When it comes to using taxpayer funds to attend charter, private, or religious schools, views are mixed to negative. Half, 50%, favor using the state money for charter schools (44% oppose) while 6 in 10 oppose using the funds for private (57%) or religious education (60%). Majorities of Democrats and independents oppose funding religious and private schooling while majorities of Republicans favor it. CONTINUED

As the Russian war against Ukraine rages on, two-thirds of American voters think it’s likely the country will survive the invasion and remain free, yet more now believe the U.S. is doing too much to help President Zelenskyy’s country.

Thirty-six percent of registered voters think the U.S. should be doing less when it comes to helping Ukraine, up 10 points since December, according to a new Fox News survey released Thursday.

Still, a majority thinks the U.S. level of support is either about right (40%) or should be greater (21%, down from 29%). CONTINUED

Economic perceptions continue to be a weak spot for Biden

President Biden’s approval ratings have remained low since earlier this summer, with 42% approving of his handling of his job as president overall and just 36% approving of his handling of the economy. Forty-two percent also rate his handling of foreign policy as good. The AP-NORC poll conducted in June found similar results: 41% approved of his overall job performance and 34% approved of his handling of the economy.

Among Democrats, 65% approve of Biden’s handling of the economy and 76% approve of how he’s handling his job as president overall, but approval is much lower among younger Democrats. Just 52% of Democrats under age 45 approve of how he is handling the economy, while 77% of older adults approve. And only 68% of Democrats under 45 rate his handling of his job as good compared to 84% of those older than 45. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: Ramaswamy rising, as DeSantis loses ground in GOP primary

Former President Donald Trump maintains his large lead in the Republican presidential primary contest, as support doubles for Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis hits a new low, according to a new Fox News national survey.

Fifty-three percent of Republican primary voters prefer Trump, down a touch from 56% in June. That gives him a 37-point lead over DeSantis, who receives the backing of 16%. That’s down from 22% support in June and a high of 28% in February. Some 11% of GOP primary voters favor Ramaswamy, about twice what he received previously. …

Support for Biden stays between 44-42% in hypothetical head-to-heads against each Republican tested, yet he tops all of them narrowly: Haley and Scott by 6 points, DeSantis by 5, Ramaswamy by 4, and Trump by 3. Each matchup is within or at the poll’s margin of error. CONTINUED

In connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 election, over half of registered voters think former President Donald Trump did something illegal. That’s according to a new Fox News Poll conducted before Trump and 18 others were indicted in Georgia for alleged efforts to challenge his 2020 election defeat in the state. Trump was also indicted August 1 on federal charges related to 2020 election subversion allegations.

Fifty-three percent believe Trump did something illegal when it comes to efforts to change the 2020 election results, including most Democrats (90%) and 6 in 10 independents (62%). About 1 in 10 Republicans think the former president did something illegal (13%). CONTINUED
