How Trump Is Reshaping Both Parties

… Two of the many key things to watch as 2017 unfolds are whether a coherent opposition or resistance to Trump develops in the Republican Party, and whether the centrist/moderately liberal wing of the Democratic Party experiences a revival. It took three consecutive presidential defeats to Reagan and George H.W. Bush for Bill Clinton, a moderate Democrat, to win the nomination. Can that happen after just one loss, albeit to a highly polarizing figure? For the country to regain historical balance, either the Republicans will have to start fighting among themselves or the Democrats must drift toward the center. It may take both. CONT.
