As a new legislative session and state budget cycle get into full swing, Californians say that the economy and homelessness are the most important issues for the governor and legislature to address. A solid majority of Californians are very concerned that their family’s younger generation will not be able to afford a home in their part of the state. Fox News Poll: Cartels, pharmaceutical companies get lion’s share of blame for opioid crisis

With drug overdoses reaching record levels, the latest Fox News Poll finds that Americans are most likely to lay the blame at the feet of drug cartels and pharmaceutical companies. Individuals, doctors, and the federal government get less blame.

The survey, released Thursday, finds 27% blame cartels while 25% fault pharmaceutical companies for the opioid crisis in the U.S. Another 11% blame the government and 7% point the finger at doctors, while less than 1-in-5 blame the drug users themselves (18%). CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: More see border situation as security crisis than humanitarian crisis

As the new Republican-led House begins a series of hearings investigating President Biden’s policies regarding the country’s southern border, the latest Fox News Poll finds sizable majorities concerned about illegal immigration and border security, and nearly half see the situation there as a national security crisis.

The survey, released Thursday, finds by a 5-point margin that voters describe the situation at the southern border as a national security crisis (47%) rather than a humanitarian one (42%). …

At the same time, a record share think the U.S. should increase the number of legal immigrants allowed to move here. Forty-three percent feel that way, up 15 points from 2013 (the last time the question was asked on a Fox survey). Still, a larger portion of voters, 49%, think the U.S. should decrease the number allowed to enter. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: Bipartisan support for sending funding, weapons to Ukraine

Just over half of American voters think Ukraine is winning the war against Russia and nearly two-thirds want to keep helping them in their fight, according to a new Fox News survey. Sixty-four percent favor the U.S. continuing to provide weapons to Ukraine and 63% support ongoing financial aid. Those numbers are up a touch compared to six months ago, when approval was 61% for weapons and 59% for money.

Majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and independents want to help Ukraine in both ways, although to varying degrees.About 8 in 10 Democrats back continuing financial (79%) and weapon support (79%). Fewer Republicans and independents feel that way, as just over half favor sending additional funding (51% and 55% respectively) and weapons (55% and 56%). CONTINUED

Sports gambling growth driven by small group of highly engaged sports fans

In the past few years, legal sports betting has exploded as an industry in certain states. Now, a new Ipsos poll finds that the industry’s growth is on the back of a very small group of Americans. Fewer than one in ten report placing official bets in the past year. Americans Still Glum About State of the Union in Most Areas

Americans’ assessment of the state of the nation remains in the pandemic-era slump seen since 2021, marked by subdued satisfaction with 30 different aspects of the country. These include the public’s reaction to several aspects of U.S. society generally, as well as to numerous specific issues facing the country.

These findings from Gallup’s Jan. 2-22 Mood of the Nation poll come as only 23% of Americans are broadly satisfied with the way things are going in the country, while the rest are dissatisfied, including nearly half “very dissatisfied.” CONTINUED
