Through a Glass Darkly: The outlook for the 2016 presidential election

… The identities of the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates will probably not be known until March or April 2016 at the earliest. But whether Hillary Clinton does or does not end up as the Democratic nominee, and regardless of who wins the Republican nomination, there are many things that we already know about the first presidential election of the post-Obama era. What we know is based on longstanding trends in American politics and well-established features of the presidential selection process.
