The protests in Ferguson, Mo., have brought national attention to the racial tensions there and shined a light on low turnout among African American voters in the city’s local elections. Voter registration efforts accompanied protests this week.
But with congressional elections coming this fall, one question out of Ferguson is whether events there might motivate and energize black voters outside of the city and state for midterms.
If African Americans turnout in greater numbers in 2014, the data suggest it’s probably unlikely to make much difference in House races, but it could matter in some Senate races that everyone is watching, including Louisiana, North Carolina and Georgia. CONT.
