Consumer Spending, Congress and Compromise

… The shocking news this week is that the House passed a budget bill well before an actual deadline, and it was passed with strong bipartisan support. This is a unique and atypical display of compromise. As of this blog’s writing, it is not clear whether the Senate will pass the bill next week, but if the Upper Chamber does, then it’s certainly possible that congressional job approval will rise from its current dismal, basement-dwelling position.

Why? Because when we last asked Americans why they disapproved of Congress, the most prevalent response — overwhelmingly so — focused on the inability of Congress to get along, compromise, stop bickering, and otherwise do their job. CONT.
