Both Obama and Romney received a TEMPO bump from the presidential debate on October 3, but that effect quickly dissipated in a few days. [TEMPO is an index that measures the influence of candidates in social, print, and broadcast media.]
As of October 6, the gap in their scores is essentially unchanged post-debate. Obama’s October 6 TEMPO score is 263 points higher than Romney’s, similar to the 291 point lead he had on September 30.
Obama’s TEMPO was 1955 as of October 3, up 723 points from his score on September 30. After peaking on October 4, his score moved down 580 points to 1375 during the period from October 3 to October 6. Obama’s Social TEMPO was 1801 on October 3, but had moved down to 1458 by October 6, while his Print and Broadcast TEMPO went from 1968 to 550.
Romney’s TEMPO was 1737, up 796 points from the period from September 30 to October 3. His score peaked on October 3, but also dropped in the period from October 3 to October 6, moving down 625 points to 1112. Romney’s Social TEMPO was 1754 on October 3 and 1188 on October 6, and his Print and Broadcast TEMPO went from 1472 to 470.
