Fox News Poll: Voters say the state of the union is worse than a year ago

As President Biden prepares to give his first State of the Union speech, voters give a status report of their own: only a quarter rate the economy positively, less than a third are satisfied with the direction of the country, and over half think the U.S. is worse off than it was a year ago. Fox News Poll: 36% say COVID-19 is under control, highest number since May

As the Omicron wave of COVID-19 fades, voters are feeling hopeful again about the novel virus being contained. Thirty-six percent say coronavirus is “completely” or “mostly” under control, the second-highest number recorded since the pandemic started, trailing the 46% who felt that way last May. Still, 43 percent feel it is only somewhat under control while 19% say it is “not at all.” …

While Biden’s approval rating on coronavirus remains his best, he is still underwater by four points (47% approve vs. 51% disapprove). That’s a far cry from last summer when he was in positive territory by 30 points (64%-34%, June and May 2021). …

Just over half of voters, 51%, say it is more important to protect the freedom to choose whether or not to get vaccinated. Slightly fewer, 46%, think it is more important to protect public safety by requiring vaccination to participate in everyday activities. CONTINUED

Fox News Poll: President Biden not tough enough on Russia

Most voters are concerned about the situation between Russia and Ukraine — and think what happens there matters here at home, according to a Fox News survey completed before Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an attack on Ukraine overnight Wednesday.

The survey finds 56% feel President Biden has not been tough enough on Russia. Few (8%) say he’s been too tough, while 29% think his handling is about right. For comparison, that’s close to the assessment of former President Trump on the same question nearly four years ago: 53% said he wasn’t tough enough on Russia, 5% said too tough, and 35% about right (July 2018).
