A clear majority of Americans opposes key provisions of the controversial new Texas abortion law, including most Republicans, the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds.
The law, signed by GOP Gov. Greg Abbott, bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, which is before many women know they’re pregnant. It also allows private citizens to sue abortion providers or anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion.
The survey found that almost 6-in-10 Americans oppose limiting abortions up to when cardiac activity is detected, at about six to eight weeks in a typical pregnancy. CONTINUED
