As abortion debate heats up, perceptions of Supreme Court change

This week the Supreme Court announced that it would hear arguments on a Mississippi law that would ban abortions after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, except in the case of medical emergencies. The news was the latest bit of evidence that abortion and the court are going to remain big political issues in the months ahead.

The Supreme Court had already waded into the topic this summer when it refused to step in to stop the implementation of a Texas law that would ban abortion after six weeks. But with the decision this week, the court finds itself front and center in one of the most politically contentious topics in the United States, one that could have big impacts on the 2022 midterms.
