The first of President Trump’s 46 tweets Friday (as of writing) was one of the few that wasn’t a retweet of some figure from the extended conservative media universe making exaggerated claims about him or his perceived opponents. It was, instead, Trump making false claims about a stanchion of that same universe, Fox News — specifically, its polling unit.

Trump has repeatedly objected to Fox News’s polling, given that it, unlike the network’s prime-time programming, has generally offered an objective, realistic assessment of the political moment. Trump justifiably accepts that the network’s coverage will paint his administration in a positive light, so when it covers its own polling (which isn’t always), he gets frustrated. CONT.
