Donald Trump’s presidency has pushed a variety of groups — including blacks, Latinos, Asian Americans and Native Americans — to become more politically engaged, spurring giant protests and record voter turnout in the 2018 midterms. At the same time, the proportion of the population that is not white continues to grow. As a result, the 2020 election will have the highest share of nonwhite voters ever seen in a presidential election year.
But we’re not seeing that in the polls. Current polling methods don’t accurately sample minority voters. That failure particularly skews our understanding of the Democratic electorate — and limits the candidates who will be on tonight’s debate stage. CONT.
