Americans want the new Congress to combat a surge in hate crimes and follow through on longstanding concerns like President Donald Trump’s pledge to lower drug prices, according to a new POLITICO-Harvard poll gauging the public’s priorities for 2019.
The poll reflects changing attitudes since the November elections as the new divided Congress starts Thursday. Leading up to the midterms, Democrats said they were most focused on defending insurance protections for pre-existing conditions and Republicans on terrorism – Americans now say they want lawmakers to focus on lowering drug prices and reducing the federal budget deficit.
