… A June WSJ/NBC News poll conducted before the recent landmark rulings on the Affordable Care Act and same-sex marriage found that 42% of Americans are able to identify the chief justice by name. … And Justice Roberts’s name identification has declined 20 points from July 2012, shortly after the court’s first ruling on the Affordable Care Act.
Not only are fewer Americans aware of Justice Roberts than was the case three years ago, but there is not a great partisan divide. Republican views are more positive than negative (13% positive, 3% negative) about the chief justice, the WSJ/NBC polling found, but Democrats are not overwhelmingly negative, offering a more mixed assessment among those who have an opinion (8% positive, 9% negative).
