Public Opinion Context: Trump’s Trip to Middle East and Europe

Donald Trump’s first overseas trip as president will take him to Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican, then to Brussels for a major NATO meeting and back to Italy for a G7 summit. The world is watching with particular interest to see how his administration, subject to serial and serious controversy at home, will play out on the world stage.

Americans appear to believe that Trump has a challenge in front of him when it comes to improving the image of the U.S. among foreign leaders. Gallup’s annual foreign affairs update in February showed that Americans’ views of how the U.S. rates in the eyes of the world are the worst in a decade, with 57% saying “unfavorably.” CONT.
