With less than one year to go until the 2016 general election, the mood of the American people is marked by anxiety and mistrust: more than seven in ten (72 percent) believe that the country is still in a recession, unchanged from 2014. Americans are more divided today than in the past on whether America’s best days are ahead of us or behind us (49 percent vs. 49 percent).
